In Impression, Baird paints fabrics using the Encaustic Monotype process, an early form of painting discovered in ancient Egyptian tombs, and nods to the history and process of painting by taking ownership over each of the elements of a gallery painting—wood, fabric, and paint. This technique is evidenced in Baird’s work where she used stretcher bars as brushstrokes in the composition to move beyond the square.

Hot Wired has been displayed in 2017 at the Google headquarters in Manhattan. Challenging the Google employees to break away from the computer screen and indulge in raw material, the woven painting pays homage to the original computer programming that was first created from a jacquard loom. This piece was also recognized by dance choreographer Roberto Lara, inspiring him to create a dance performance for the Louise Nevelson-designed Saint Peter’s Lutheran Church in New York.

For the painting technique she calls the "hypnotic twist," Baird dips fabric in handmade waxed pigments and sculpts it into a "textural landscape of color." Hot Wired (detail,7'5') - "inspired by the tech landscape we currently weave through to build our own colorful worlds" - was on display last fall at (appropriately) the Google offices in Chelsea, Watch for Chellis' work in Canvas, an upcoming art app.
